I studied Medicine in C\u00e1diz and completed my specialist training at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena in Seville, the birthplace of dermatological surgery in western Andalusia. During this time, I received the inaugural <strong>Best Specialist Trainee Award<\/strong> for my cohort and completed my doctoral thesis. I specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of skin cancer, particularly <strong>Mohs surgery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My main interest has always been the medical and surgical management of skin cancer. I trained in <strong>Mohs surgery<\/strong> at the Instituto Valenciano de Oncolog\u00eda (IVO), a national referral centre for this technique.<br><br>Since then, over 13 years, I have performed <strong>more than 700 Mohs procedures, including over 500 as the lead surgeon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a summary of my career:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Specialist training at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena (Seville).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultant at Hospital Universitario de Puerto Real (C\u00e1diz).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultant at Hospital de Jerez (C\u00e1diz), where I performed the <strong>first two Mohs surgery cases in the public healthcare system in C\u00e1diz<\/strong> to treat <em>dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans<\/em>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultant and <strong>clinical supervisor for specialist trainees<\/strong> at Hospital Universitario Donostia (San Sebasti\u00e1n, Gipuzkoa). I performed the <strong>first ten Mohs procedures in Gipuzkoa\u2019s public healthcare system<\/strong>. Together with colleagues, I established the Dermatology Day Surgery Unit.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Associate Professor of Medicine at the <strong>University of the Basque Country<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultant and <strong>clinical supervisor for specialist trainees<\/strong> at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena (Seville). Member of the Mohs surgery and oncological surgery team, and of the melanoma and head and neck cancer subcommittees.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specialist at <strong>Quir\u00f3nsalud Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n and Infanta Luisa hospitals in Seville<\/strong>, where I perform Mohs surgery and advanced surgery for skin cancer and hidradenitis suppurativa. Since 2020, I have performed <strong>more than 500 Mohs procedures as the lead surgeon<\/strong> at these two hospitals.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mohs surgery trainer (accreditation in progress).<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am a member of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO) and the Spanish Dermatological Surgery Group (GEDOC).<br><br>I am one of the few Mohs surgeons in Spain, and <a href=\"https:\/\/esms-mohs.eu\/find-a-practitioner\/tiago-mestre-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>I was the first surgeon in southern Spain (Andalusia, Murcia and Extremadura) to be accredited by the European Society for Mohs Surgery (ESMS)<\/strong>.<\/a> The ESMS is the society of European dermatologists dedicated to establishing and maintaining professional standards in micrographic surgery for skin cancer, particularly the Mohs technique. <strong>Mohs surgery is highly specialised and should be performed by certified dermatologists who have undergone rigorous training in this technique.<\/strong><br><br>I am also certified by <strong>EADO (European Association of Dermato-Oncology) in the <a href=\"https:\/\/eado.org\/eado-certification-in-medical-tumor\/practical-information\/\">management of systemic therapies for skin cancer<\/a><\/strong>, a European diploma held by only around 40 doctors in Spain.<br><br>I regularly speak at national (AEDV, GEDOC) and international (ESMS, EADV) courses and conferences on surgical anatomy, complex reconstruction of surgical defects and Mohs surgery. Whenever I speak or lecture at a scientific event, I accept <strong>no<\/strong> funding, fees or transfers of value from the pharmaceutical industry, from which I am <strong>completely independent.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariodesevilla.es\/sociedad\/mejores-medicos-Andalucia_0_1843616133.html\">2023<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariodesevilla.es\/salud\/son-75-mejores-medicos-andalucia_0_2002889772.html\">2024<\/a>, I had the great honour of being independently selected by Grupo Joly (Diario de C\u00e1diz, Diario de Sevilla, M\u00e1laga Hoy, etc.) as one of the <strong>50 best doctors in Andalusia.<\/strong><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Tom\u00e1s Toledo Pastrana and I am a dermatologist.
